GIACOMO PUCCINI died on November 29, 1924. News of his death reached Rome during a performance of La Boheme. The opera was immediately stopped, and the orchestra played Frederic Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat Minor Funeral March for the stunned audience. La Boheme is considered one of his best works as well as one of the most romantic operas ever composed and is arguably today's most popular opera.
